BRANDON
Born 5.2.16
Welcome Baby Brandon, born 5.2.16, 8.8 pounds. Congratualtions Proud Wonderful Parents of this beautiful Hypnobirthing Baby, Hanna and Brendon.
Here are some of the lovely things HANNAH wrote to me about the birth of their baby….and KUDOS to this couple for taking the time to research and prepare for the birth they wanted for themselves and their baby.
“Just wanted to let you know that B and I had our baby on Friday. We had a little boy at 8.8 pounds 50cm long with a water birth. Brandon …..
I mostly want to say thank you for guiding us and giving us all the information we needed to have control in the birth of our baby, it really helped and there wasn’t a moment I felt stressed or too unsure of what was going on, I trusted my body and B knew how to guide me even if he felt a little unsure himself cause he had the tools to work from. There were times I didn’t know what position to take but I just let my body work out what felt right and sometimes as you said all it took was a slight change and things kept moving as they needed to. It was a 6 hour labour all up that started as soon as my waters broke which I believe was a result of the breathing techniques you showed us. And I also birthed with no medical intervention/drugs because I can now say that by knowing my body I was able to get the birth I wanted, with a credits to you. D our midwife was wonderful and I am very lucky to have had two wonderful women (yourself and D) in the planning of a birth I will not forget and could do again.
Thank you so much”
I have huge Goosebumps still from receiveing such a lovely message this afternoon.

VBAC 3rd baby – CONGRATULATIONS WONDERFUL CLEVER PARENTS NICOLE AND HEATH and BIRTH COMPANION HEIDI.
“Midwife kept congratulating me on how calm I seemed” Nicole
Here’s what Nicole has to say...
Hi Adrienne. So pleased to announce the birth of Zara Jane – my hypno birthing baby. Completely natural birth after previous c-section. Weighing in at 8 pounds 9 ounces and born 8:23pm on 13/1/15. Midwife kept congratulating me on how calm I seemed- would definitely recommend the hypno birthing techniques to others. I found the breathing and listening to the recordings really helpful and Heidi did an excellent job at reminding me to breath- particularly in the very quick crowning stage. Thanks for all your help
WELCOME ARIA

“To be honest, the one thing I would say now looking at my experience is that it requires such mental strength! More than I imagined in the lead up and something that I wasn’t aware I was really preparing myself for every time I spent time practicing my hypnobirthing. Hypnobirthing gave me mental strength, which in turn gave me the ability to remain in control of my mind, but give control over to my body also…” CIARA
Just wanted to send you an email now that I have an opportunity- It has been a whirl wind week! Glen and I welcomed a baby girl on Friday afternoon 15th August, her name is Aria Cxxxx. As you may remember I planned on birthing at the Birth Centre here in Townsville, and lucky for us everything remained well after our classes with you and Aria arrived at full term so we were able to birth at the Birth Centre- which was amazing!
HELLO ELISE!

CONGRATS WONDERFUL PARENTS LAUREN AND SEAN
“Thanks so much for everything, I had only hoped to lose my fear and negativity of birth and I got that and much more. Elise is still a chilled out little girl and such a joy in our lives.“ LAUREN
Hi – I thought I’d let you know how the birth went. I already mentioned that it didn’t quite go as planned but it was still a beautiful experience and we are really happy that we got to put some of the hypnobirthing into practice.
It’s a very long story so I’ll try to keep it short….. It ended up being a very long labour because Elise was in the posterior position-however we didn’t know that until a couple of hours before her birth…
I went into labour in the early hours of Sunday morning and it continued all through Sunday and Monday. The surges would intensify for a few hours and then weaken and on it went.
I saw my obstetrician on Monday afternoon. She confirmed I was in early labour and 3cm dilated (thankfully that wasn’t all for nothing! ) She suggested I be booked in for an induction if the labour didn’t progress soon but she knew we didn’t want intervention. So we agreed to her doing a membrane sweep that day and put off an induction until Thursday. I was sure we’d get things moving before then anyway.
Only a little while after we got home the surges started getting stronger and close together so I set myself up to listen to the rainbow relaxation and burned some lavender oil. My waters broke only a few minutes later and we were instructed to head to the hospital. Even though I wanted to stay home as long as possible, the surges were only 5 mins apart so I thought it was time to go in anyway. We listened to affirmations in the car on the way.
We arrived at the hospital at 6.30pm and after a quick monitor of the baby’s heart we were pretty much left alone. I had the hypnobirthing recordings on my ipod, as well as some relaxing music so I listened to those and visualised each surge as a wave I would float over. I spent some time in the shower to try to ease the back pain I was having but I felt better when I could listen to my ipod.
Sean was brilliant, he used light touch massage and counter pressure on my back and kept quietly reassuring me and encouraging me to breathe and relax. He never left my side the whole time.
One of the midwives (we had several shift changes!) guessed that we were hypnobirthing because I was so calm. They were totally respectful of our wishes too.
I breathed through the surges all night until they slowed again at 4am. Nothing I did would help speed them up. The obstetrician came at 7.30 and told me the baby was posterior and I was only 5cm dilated. I was devastated! At least the baby being posterior explained the long labour with little progress and extreme back pain.
I agreed to have a syntocin IV to speed things up, I was just too exhausted at this stage. She suggested an epidural too but I didn’t want one. Within an hour on the syntocin I was fully dilated and baby was coming. It was so fast that i never got back into “the zone”.During that hour we made many attempts to move the baby into a better position and the back pain became extreme so I asked for gas (not effective when I was so used to breathing through my nose all night!) and bit later I was given a pethidine shot. I was not fully aware of it at the time- I was vomiting and burning up but Sean agreed to it thinking it would relax me again. The doctor had ordered it instead of the epidural but it was pointless given that the baby was coming now.
Well she did not move position so I did have to do some forceful pushing to get her out. There was talk of an emergency caserean, which I understand is very common for posterior babies, but I definitely did not want that! At least no one was doing the “push, push! ” count to ten thing…..Dr Pxxx was just quietly encouraging and kept telling me I was brilliant and doing it all by myself. There was no drama, it was just peaceful. Elise was born at 10.24am and completely unaffected by the late pethidine. She was chilled out but totally alert and had an apgar score of 10. Her heart rate never faltered throughout and She was just perfect. Sean cried more than she did!
Told you it was a long story haha! Didnt keep it short Sorry ?
So, even if my twice weekly pilates and endless birth ball exercises did nothing to prevent her being posterior…..(maybe if I’d known I’d have done more polar bears! ) I am so happy with how things turned out.
We are so glad we did your classes, We might not be the best example of hypnobirthing in action but the visualisations and breathing got me through all those hours of labour and it really didn’t seem so long at the time. I also coped well when things weren’t going as hoped, we just rolled with it.
Thanks so much for everything, I had only hoped to lose my fear and negativity of birth and I got that and much more.
Elise is still a chilled out little girl and such a joy in our lives.
Thanks again!
All the best

“Thank you for helping us achieve the birth we were hoping for and more importantly the healthy happy outcome we have” by NICOLE
WELCOME VIOLET! CONGRATULATIONS NICOLE, MATT AND SISTER PEARL
Violet
Born 15th July 2014
Early morning
Weighing 4.16kg
“Good Morning Adrienne.
Matt, Pearl and I are delighted to share our wonderful news. Our beautiful daughter/sister Violet was born in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. We hyponobirthed our little miracle (at 4.16kg – not so little) with no drugs or medical intervention.
Violet was bought into the world via a water birth. Our wonderful midwife stayed in the background as she was not required and Matt and I (-and Violet) worked together using the skills you helped us develop. Violet was perfectly positioned after your extra session and ready for birth, despite being a week late.
Thank you for helping us achieve the birth we were hoping for and more importantly the healthy happy outcome we have.
many thanks”,

WELCOME BODHI! CONGRATULATIONS KIRSTY AND DAVE
Bodhi David Powell,
Born 17th March 2014

Weighing 8.1lbs.
Total Labour time of 2 hours.
“When I found out I was pregnant I quickly raced off to the doctor. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid a few months prior. My doctor had known we were trying for a baby and made sure I knew how important it was that my medication was adjusted as soon as possible so that my pregnancy wasn’t compromised. My medication dosage was doubled and I was made aware that my pregnancy would be classes as high risk due to my thyroid condition. I was placed under the care of a wonderful obstetrician and endocrine specialist who informed me of why I was classed as high risk. I learnt that my thyroid may be hard to stabilise, I was at risk of hypertension, pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes (also due to family history). I had handed over my pregnancy, baby and body into the hands of the professionals. Because that was the right thing to do.
I received wonderful care through the clinic and everyone was so very thorough. The shock of being a high risk pregnancy wore off after a few early weeks only to return at 20 weeks. I had a little bit of high blood pressure, swelling in my left leg (which also had a varicose vein), low B12, low iron and a low lying placenta. It felt like every time I went to the hospital it was another thing not going quite so well. I was so very shocked that this was happening. I couldn’t comprehend that all this was happening inside of my body because I felt so AMAZING! No word of a lie. I was quite a fit active person before I fell pregnant. I worked out every day; I ate well and had a great life balance. I was still in complete awe of how my pregnancy wasn’t going so well but I felt so great. I will even state that during my pregnancy I felt the most amazing physically and the most beautiful I had ever felt my whole life.
Visiting the clinic every week became exhausting. Not physically, mentally. I told my obstetrician after 7 weekly visits in a row that I would not be coming back next week in case it was a dire situation. I had had enough. By this stage I was managing gestational diabetes with my diet, my thyroid was good, the only symptom I had at that time was insomnia. But guess what I still felt quite good, only to be told that I would most likely be induced at 38 weeks due to Gestational Diabetes. Babies can apparently become too big for you to labour naturally.
So now at roughly 30 weeks I thought it was time to start thinking about antenatal classes. As I mentioned before, I had incredible insomnia during my pregnancy which gave me a great deal of time to research the hell out of everything I wanted to know. I felt like I had a good grasp of what was good and not so good information and also made informed decisions. I found some information and answers to satisfy nearly every question I had. I also watched every single episode of “One Born Every Minute” and every documentary and you tube clip about conception and birth there is to know. I had made up my mind that I didn’t want to any have drugs during my labour no matter how hard it was. I was very frightened of having a caesarean birth like I was meant to if I couldn’t keep my GD under control.
I had every single female (and some males) that I came into contact with tell me their birth stories. There were only a very small percentage of birth stories that sounded like an awesome experiences and also very few that were drug free. I wished that I too could have a story like that, even if I was a small chance. I made a mental note to myself not to share my experience unless…. I was a) asked for it, or b) it was a good inspiring story.
We attended the antenatal classes at our hospital. I was pleasantly surprised when the midwives didn’t seem to push the need for pain relief. We found the classes good, I must admit a lot of the class I felt I already knew from my extensive insomnia fuelled research. So we left feeling like there was a bit more to labour and birthing that couldn’t be covered in that short time. So again I found myself wanting something more. I searched YouTube for calm births and found a video of a woman who filmed her very calm birth. Totally in awe I was, I couldn’t believe this ladies experience and craved the same. I googled calm birthing Townsville, and found a hypnobirthing teacher in Adrienne.
I was 34 weeks at the time and looking like I was going to be delivered via c-section in about 4 weeks time. I enquired about the classes and as I waited for a response I thought to myself that there was probably no point in pursuing this as I had little chance of achieving the natural calm birth I so desperately craved but going by professional advice it was mostly out of reach. Upon speaking with Adrienne I could hear in my voice that I sounded so brainwashed and my pregnancy sounded stressful and difficult when I actually felt the exact opposite. We quickly agreed to start the classes in case the c-section was to happen.
After the first class I was so thrilled! The information was exactly what I was looking for and much to my surprise my tradesman husband was also shocked, he kept saying to me “that hypnobirthing stuff just really makes sense you know”, many times over the weekend he referred to the classes and repeated this phrase. I was so shocked at his reaction that I emailed Adrienne to tell her. My husband’s interests are cars, sport and anything that says “I’m a man”. He is very supportive and agreed to do the classes to keep the “missus” happy and found him a big fan. Haha, still makes me giggle. After the first session I could see Dave was relaxed and confident and so to was I, and my dream birth was steadily returning. After completing the classes he was so confident and connected with our pregnancy and baby. Hypnobirthing reminded us of our instincts and intuition as parents, particularly as a mother. We felt tremendously well informed with a renewed confidence. Many of the techniques we learnt we still use in day to day life, the most commonly used technique is believing and trusting in ourselves. Totally empowering!!!
I went for a scan at 37 weeks to see where the placenta was positioned and had some bloods done that showed that gestational diabetes was in check and we discovered that the baby had low fluid surrounding him. I negotiated with my doctor to let me go home and try to fix it to avoid a c-section. Water and bed rest was my orders and I that I did! I returned to him 3 days later, he was really surprised that I had defied the odds for the 2nd time so far.
At 40 weeks I attended another obstetric appt, my usually OBGYN was away unwell. She realised I was 40+2 and got straight on the phone without even informing me and booked me in to be induced the following week when I would be 40+6. As she hung up the phone I asked her to call back and cancel as I wouldn’t be attending. After a grizzly conversation I told her that my baby was coming on his own accord when he was ready. She was clearly just “doing her job”. I asked her what her experiences were with women going over 40 weeks and she couldn’t tell me as it’s rare to see this anymore. She couldn’t tell me of one case in her obstetric career where there were problems.
I then went home and cancelled the induction, the doctor I spoke to said that to keep everyone involved happy that they would move my induction to the next week and to continue going to the hospital for Foetal Heart Rate Monitoring every second day. After an emotional day I rang Adrienne, who came over for support. She was wonderful! Not only comforting and motivating but she also read a script to invite our baby to come out into the world.
That night at 1.30am my waters broke while I was sleeping and sent us into a mini panic as I noticed my baby’s bowels had opened in the waters. As I raced around the house getting ready to make an exit my husband very calmly helped by eating whatever he could find in the fridge. This was his way of preparing for long labour; he defiantly isn’t himself when he is hungry haha. We arrived at the hospital and were assigned a wonderful young midwife. She asked of our birth plan which was, babies safety first followed by, not offering pain relief, to be able to move around as desired, dimly lit room, minimal monitoring and internal checks. I informed her that we had learnt the hypnobirthing techniques, she had no idea what hypnobirthing was but was super keen to work with us and so enthusiastic. “What do I do to help you”, she asked, I smiled as I felt so comfortable with our midwife and asked her to follow my husband’s lead. She was so understanding and helped us with everything she could and stayed with us the whole time. I felt I had a great team.
The only thing I was restricted from doing was going in the shower or tub as I had a wireless monitor on the baby. This was a precaution in case the baby was in distress due to the opening of his bowels. I danced and walked around the dimly lit room and breathed and breathed and breathed. I could feel that I was ready to birth my baby quite quickly, with every breath and after a few surges I learnt how to put it all together and make it work. Much to my happiness my surges were without pain it was just pressure. At the end of each surge it was such an amazing feeling, so relaxing and somewhat pleasant. So different to what “One born every minute “made it look like. The doctor came into the room at one point and told us that our babies’ heart rate wasn’t coming up enough after each surge. My surges were very close together and a little lengthy. She asked to prep my hand for the cannula so that she could give me a drug that would slow the labour down. There was no way this labour was slowing down, my gut told me that. I bought myself some time by agreeing to the cannula and focusing on my breathing and opening the birth canal using the visualisation of the rose.
I told the midwife that I thought the baby was ready to come now; she raced outside to tell the doctor. The doctor enters the birth suite and said “so the midwife tells me you think you’re ready to push, I think you have a little while to go.” I was only 1cm dilated upon arrival and asked not to be checked regularly. I insisted that she check as I was feeling a bit heavy down there. I won’t ever forget the shock on her face when she announced that I was 9cm. David knew I had been breathing our baby down; no one else had any idea. Ha-ha I am smiling as I type this. Well the room when into a flurry, people were putting on gloves; NICU arrived to make sure our baby was ok when he arrived. Four surges and breaths later our beautiful little boy arrived. He was placed on the NICU table to be assessed before I demanded my baby be placed on my chest. He was only away for seconds but I didn’t want to waste any time. The primal instincts kicked in and I wanted my baby. We placed bodhi on my tummy and watched as he crawled up to the breast and latched without a problem. Blood tests from Bodhi’s umbilical cord showed that he was never in distress during labour.
This was the calm beautiful birth of our son Bodhi David Powell, Born 17th March 2014 at 4.04am, weighing 8.1lbs. Total Labour time of 2 hours. I get overwhelmed whenever I think about the birth of Bodhi, not just because he is our first baby, but I cannot believe how lucky we were to have such an amazing experience that will pave the way for our other children. We are forever grateful that Adrienne worked with us and gave us this opportunity. If it wasn’t for her and hypnobirthing my late stages of pregnancy and labour would have been so much different. I birthed our son calmly without fear and that was an empowering day that I will never forget”.

TOWNSVILLE’s 2nd HYPNOBIRTHING BABY
Eben Moshe Troy-Dunne born 13.4.13
Michael and I are so proud to announce the birth of our beautiful son Eben Moses (Eben Moshe) this morning at 10:54 am, on his expected date of exactly 40 weeks.
Eben was born naturally in water, was lifted out of the water by mum and had soon captured us with his huge alert eyes and happy smile. Dad eventually cut the cord.He was breastfeeding soon after and has enjoyed his first day sleeping peacefully.
He is 51 cm, 3.45 kg (7.7 pounds), pink, plump, contented, perfect and everything we could ever hope for.
Pre-labour started on Friday afternoon, active labour began early Saturday morning and once we moved into Townsville Birth Centre we had about 90 minutes in the tub. We were so happy to have the completely natural birth we had dreamed of.
We want to thank the lovely Adrienne of HypnoBirthing Townsville for helping us to believe in a woman’s birthing body and put fear aside
(although I must say the experience was far from painless).
Our heartfelt gratitude also to our incredible doula Mel Taylor of Birthing Buddies for guiding us through the hard parts of labour with absolute wisdom and compassion. You are unbelievable!
And we want to thank our wonderful midwife Dawn and the Townsville Birth Centre, we could not have had Eben in a happier place.
A couple of photos thanks to doula Mel and one 2 minutes ago with happy dad!
With love,
Talila and Michael
SEPTEMBER 2013 – LETTER OF APPRECIATION FROM HAPPY EXPECTANT PARENTS AND THEIR UNBORN BABY
Dear Adrienne,
Thank you so much for the time, energy and enthusiasm you put into our hypnobirthing course. We thoroughly enjoyed every part if it from the first moment we started to read the book.
You have given us a wonderful gift – calm and confidence going in to what will be the most wonderful day of our lives. This gift is truly priceless. Before reading the book and experiencing the course, I never imagined this feeling about the event would be possible.
We now wait with positive anticipation about our baby’s birthing day! Thank you for sharing your passion with us. We will be sure to keep in touch.
Thank you also for sending through the recordings and for the other videos you loaned to us during the course. Meeting Bridie, David and Maxwell was also a lovely touch and wonderful way to finish the course.

A LOVELY HYPNOBIRTHING EXPERIENCE…recently shared from America…and this is the norm, not the exception

Madelyn’s Birth Story
The morning of our daughter’s birth, I woke up at 6:45 with what felt like menstrual cramps. They weren’t bad, just…there. We drove my sister who was visiting to the airport. When we got to Newark airport, my surges were six minutes apart. By the time we got back home around 10 am, my surges were further apart. Since it was a BEAUTIFUL September morning and I love being outdoors (and I wanted to encourage birth not to slow down), my husband and I walked around our neighborhood. We walked for about 2 miles, all the while talking about how excited were and our thoughts about our future and our baby girl. The surges started getting closer together again.
When we got back home, I spent some time focusing on my breathing and my visualization exercises. I had no real pain, just slight discomfort in my back (Madelyn was sunny-side up). I was on and off nauseous. My husband sat next to me watching TV and handing me cold towels for the back of my neck. By 12:30 that same afternoon, my surges felt a lot stronger and we headed to the hospital at 1:15.
The entire car ride, the only words spoke were:
Cold (he turned on the heater)…. Hot (he turned on the air conditioner)…. Surge (he held my hand and drove as calmly as he could)…. Sick (he made sure I had enough room in the vomit bag).
When we got to the hospital, the nurses didn’t believe I was in labor because I was so calm. The only reason they started to believe me was because I vomited right after being very quiet, which wasn’t make sense to them. Turns out, I was 6cm. The nurse was shocked! I focused on my breathing and my visualizations. At some point, my husband took a picture of me during a surge and looking at it now, you would think I was sleeping! Our nurse was amazed at how calm and relaxed my husband and I both were.
The doctor came to see me at 4:45 and I was at 9cm. The doctor too, couldn’t believe how quickly I was progressing and how calm and relaxed we were. At 5:30 or so, my body told me to start breathing the baby down. I kept my focus, breathing and visualizing the path my baby was taking.
My daughter showed her full, beautiful, perfect, healthy body at 5:49 pm. It was such a beautiful moment!
I was very proud of myself especially with all the hospital workers… nurses, housekeeping, doctors, etc. who came in to see the woman who had such a calm birthing experience! One of the nurses even told me that I was a pleasure to watch give birth and that more women should have the same experience and training that I had. I could not have done it without my HypnoBirthing classes and my amazing husband. I feel so blessed to have had such a perfect birthing experience. On a side note, I have a VERY happy baby who is very healthy. All she does is smile. I know that her attitude is a result of such a wonderful birthing experience. Thank you, Nicole for your help. I will tell my story to as many pregnant women I can to help them achieve the same amazing birth experience that I had.
